Thinking is a natural process, however when left to itself, it is often distorted, unorganised, self serving, uninformed, and possibly biased. According to Scriven and Paul (1987) critical thinking is the intellectually disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating information gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action. In a simplistic view, critical thinking is the process of collaborating information to provide practical solutions with validity and worth to complex problems. It can also be referred to as metacognition (Tempelaar, 2006) that is the process of thinking about thinking. Through critical thinking, we acquire a means of assessing and upgrading our ability to judge well. It enables us to go into virtually any situation and to figure out the logic of whatever is happening in that situation. Critical thinking provides a way for us to learn from new experiences through the process of continual self-assessment. It is therefore a fundamental skill in the workplace for project managers as it can help deal with daily questions that arise as well as evaluate people, policies and institutions to ultimately avoid problems.
